God at Work through You
We know that many of you love to share our resources with others. But can one book, DVD, or article really make a difference? Recently, RTB friend and fan Kurt wrote a letter to Hugh describing his journey from science skeptic to science teacher. Here’s how the gift of just one RTB book changed his life:
Like so many other Christians in the US, I grew up believing in a young earth as orthodoxy (and all of the scientific and theological pitfalls that come with that). During my freshman year at Caltech, a friend of my mother’s gave me a thin book called The Creator and the Cosmos. I read it and was blown away. My skeptical mind prompted me to show it to my atheist, physics-major friend and ask, “Is this stuff about the universe true?” “Yes, that’s just mainstream, consensus science,” he replied.
Wow. My life was changed. So many things made so much more sense. The year was 1996. When I was later president of the Caltech Christian Fellowship, we had you speak to the Caltech community in Baxter Lecture Hall. That was amazing.
Since that time, I taught high school science in a Christian school for 12 years, and I had many opportunities to share with students many reasons why they did not have to choose between evidence/reason and faith. Many students told me that this made a big difference to them. It was not always without opposition! But you have always modeled graciousness in your debates—no ad hominem attacks, no emotionally driven overstatements, etc. Thank you for that.
As soon as I finished paying my Caltech loans, I started giving money monthly to RTB. That was a huge joy for me! Thank you for the work you do.
Generous friends like you have ensured that a multitude of resources are available for people like Kurt. Your continuing partnership means RTB can develop even more life-changing resources. Thank you!
