A Step Beyond
Most of our Step Beyond articles offer practical ways to grow in your knowledge and understanding. This week, we’re going to encourage you to grow in your practice of faith.
God created community as a primary way to help us learn and grow. Community provides us with opportunities to serve and be served. It fosters accountability and support. And it showcases God’s greatest commandment to love Him with our heart, mind, and soul, and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves. Some even see the Trinity as a community within the Godhead Himself.
That’s why we strongly encourage you to be active in a community of believers, if you aren’t already. Attend a local church regularly and engage in deep, meaningful relationships. The Bible tells us we need to attend church so we can worship God with other believers and be taught His Word for our spiritual growth. Church is the place where believers can love one another (1 John 4:12), encourage one another (Hebrews 3:13), “spur” one another to love and good works (Hebrews 10:24), serve one another (Galatians 5:13), instruct one another (Romans 15:14), honor one another (Romans 12:10), and be kind and compassionate to one another (Ephesians 4:32). The early church “devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and to fellowship, to the breaking of bread and to prayer” (Acts 2:42). We should follow that example to keep our faith vibrant.
