Young Earth interpretation of a Tree going through multiple layers of
sediment
-
Addendum 07-17-2006
-
A number of geologic phenomena -- including rapid deposition during
levee breaks, subsidence due to sediment dewatering (which left New
Orleans below sea level), basin extension, rifting, and others in which
either the ground gradually sinks or water levels gradually rise --
cause sediment to pile up around standing trees. That sediment hardens
into rock over time. The delicate root systems often remain intact,
embedded in the paleosols (ancient soils). Today one can see “ghost
forests” near Anchorage, Alaska, where the land sank about six feet
during the 1964 earthquake. Salt water invaded the root systems and
killed the trees, but the trees are still standing in the muck. 4
