Field Report
by Kathy Ross

Despite a recent escalation of attacks from young-earth creationist camps, more churches than ever are opening their doors to Reasons To Believe. Recent events at Coast Hills Community (Aliso Viejo, Calif.), Fallbrook Presbyterian (near San Diego), Pulpit Rock (Colorado Springs), and Cherry Hills Community (Denver) have drawn strong pastoral support and large, enthusiastic crowds—resulting in many changed lives. That's a big item on our "thank-you-God" list for 1998.

Another is the growth of our speakers and writers team. More than a dozen volunteer apologists, including Erica Carlson, Marj Harman, Mark Ritter, and Rob Vandewater, have led outreaches in homes, churches, schools, and elsewhere across North America and around the world, including Africa and Australia. Many lead regular classes, studies, discussion groups and skeptics forums in their churches and communities. You may wish to check with Georgette at (626) 335-1480 x141 to find out if there's a group meeting, or perhaps a future event planned, near you. Already we have a stack of requests for outreaches in Alabama, Colorado, Florida, Indiana, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Washington, as well as India, Mongolia, and Turkey. (Now you can see why we're so eager to add both staff and volunteer apologists!)

In mid October, trucks rolled up to our office—and to bookstores everywhere—with boxes of Hugh's latest book, The Genesis Question. You may have already seen it announced in our fall catalog, but we offer a quantity discount for the holidays in this newsletter (see p. 15). Hugh also updated Beyond the Cosmos, this second edition to be released in paperback in January 1999, and he teamed up with Dr. Gleason Archer to write one portion of a book on the Genesis debate coming from Crux Publications in the spring or summer of 1999.

The Genesis Question books arrived just in time to accompany Hugh on his first visit to Virginia Tech. There he participated in a fruitful Veritas Forum apologetics lecture series. (See "Letters" column for one report of that event.)

FROM CANADA
Board member Ted Pampeyan, in Victoria, writes this note of encouragement: "The obvious passion of Reasons To Believe is to introduce the skeptic, the thinking person, to the personal and loving God who has revealed Himself in the immense and intricate creation. As Hugh and his colleagues describe continuing discoveries about the features of the cosmos, they point us to the reality of the Creator God who gives meaning to the incomprehensible vastness. My hope and prayer is that believers in Canada and around the world will join Hugh and staff in their determination to clearly proclaim not only the awesome creative power of God but also the majesty and liberating power of the Son, Jesus Christ, Himself the Creator and Savior."

FROM SOUTH AFRICA
Liz Block writes, "David spoke in a Baptist Church on Sunday evening. It seats about 500 people, and over 750 turned up. They had to carry the garden benches into the foyer, and people stood outside looking through the windows! I have no doubt that many came as a result of Hugh's interview on Radio 702 (Dave's talk was mentioned before Hugh spoke). Many, many people indicated that they wanted to receive Jesus!" Dr. David and Liz Block can be contacted by email at igalaxy@iafrica.com.

FROM AUSTRALIA
The McCleries, who head up RTB efforts for the continent, traveled from Perth to Melbourne for an outreach there.
