Reasons Institute - Lesson Format

What can a student expect while taking a Reasons Institute course?

Reasons Institute online courses are presented through a "virtual classroom" (via Moodle, our online learning platform).

  1. Students access the lesson materials from the comfort of their own home computer any time of the day or night. There are no specific times students must be “in class,” thus students can access lectures and notes at their convenience.

  2. Each week's lesson includes 2 or 3 audio and/or video lectures from some of today's top science apologists. This equates to about 2 to 3 hours per week. Most of the lectures also include an outline for taking notes.

  3. Readings (usually between 50 to 75 pages) are assigned each week in the textbooks that correspond with the theme of that week's lesson.

  4. Students interact with the online instructor and other students via online message boards. This provides an atmosphere of cooperative learning and gives students the opportunity to ask questions and receive feedback about what they are learning. Audit students can devote as much or as little time as they want to participating on the message boards.

  5. Students are also assigned 1 or 2 study questions (answers should be between 300 to 400 words each) which apply the principles of that lesson to their life or ministry. All homework is submitted to the online instructor.

  6. Students taking courses for credit are also required to complete a few other written assignments including a 10-page research paper.

Written assignments and discussion participation are optional for audit students, except those taking the course to become a RTB apologist or keep their "active" status.
