Noah's FloodExploring the Extent of the Flood: Part One1/1/2009 In my years of speaking and writing on science-faith issues, I've discovered only one topic that stirs more heated debate than the age of the universe or the days of creation, and that's the Flood of Noah's lifetime. Often this event is called the Genesis Flood, and yet multiple biblical passages, in addition to the initial narrative (Genesis 6-9), shed light on what occurred and why. Let us Reason - The Unsinkable Search for Noah's Ark3/1/1993 On February 12, 1993, the CBS television network aired another of its recent series of "religious interest" specials, this one entitled "The Remarkable Discovery of Noah's Ark." While I am pleased that a major network is acknowledging people's interest in Biblical subject matter, I cannot say I am thrilled with the material presented. Let Us Reason: Noah's Floating Zoo9/1/1990 I can imagine that nearly everyone who talks about his/her beliefs with friends and associates has at one time or another encountered objections to the factuality of the story of Noah and the ark. Many times in my travels I have heard people excuse their rejection of the scriptures with some comment about the incredulity of a boat and a handful of people rescuing all species of life from a global deluge a few thousand years ago. Let Us Reason: Raining on a Misconception9/1/1991 One of the questions that comes up each time I speak on science and Genesis is this: Did rain fall upon the earth before the Flood? People wonder, too, whether or not the rainbow Noah saw was the very first rainbow. Let Us Reason: The Waters of the Flood12/1/1990 Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the Genesis Flood is its geographical extent. Part of the basis for the controversy is that Genesis addresses the geophysics, geology, and geography of the flood only secondarily. Noah's Flood: A Bird's-Eye View2/1/2002 Ms. Johnson smiles and settles her class for the week’s lesson. She opens the Bible on her lap and begins to read the story of Noah's flood. Her first-graders sit cross-legged on the floor, wiggling a little but listening quietly. Outline Of Genesis Flood Chapters1/1/2000 God limits the spread of wickedness via the flood Pitching Noah's Ark--and its implications2/5/2008 Genesis chapter six presents a narrative of Noah's ark. God gave him specific instructions regarding how to construct the ark, including the dimensions, the type of wood to use, and the placement of the door and roof. Noah is also instructed to coat it with "pitch" inside and out--presumably for waterproofing purposes. Rapid Post-Flood Speciation: A Critique of the Young-Earth Model8/25/2004 Creationists disagree on the extent of Noah’s Flood. The main reason young-earth creationists insist the Flood was a global event is their model demands it. The Flood is the mechanism they use to explain the earth’s geological features. Rather than forming over millions or billions of years as most scientists believe, young-earth creationists maintain the earth’s features are the result of global floodwaters and processes that accompanied the Flood, like erosion, volcanism and tectonics. Ten Major Differences Between Calendar-Day and Day-Age Creationists1/23/2001 cdc = Calendar-Day Creationists The Waters of the Flood1/1/2000 Perhaps the most controversial aspect of the Genesis Flood is its geographical extent. Part of the basis for the controversy is that Genesis addresses the geophysics, geology, and geography of the flood only secondarily. Its main message is that God was compelled to cleanse the earth of the wickedness of man. Why Shorter Life Spans?1/1/2001 None of the explanations offered in the accompanying article imply that God randomly selected the life span of early humans or that He simply reacted to natural disasters in shortening human life.
