Human Origins and the BibleA Burgoo of Human Origin DiscoveriesPosted by Fazale ‘Fuz’ Rana, Ph.D. Three New Studies Support Biblical Account of Humanity’s Creation Agriculture's Origin Fits RTB Human Origins Modelby Fazale (Fuz) R. Rana, Ph.D. Did Adam and Eve really exist? Some people say no. They view the biblical account of humanity's beginning as mythical. However, recent scientific advances substantiate the historicity of the biblical record,1 and now a new discovery sheds light on an apparent discrepancy regarding the emergence of agriculture. Are There Gaps in the Biblical Genealogies?William Henry Green, "Primeval Chronology” The question of the possible reconciliation of the results of scientific inquiry respecting the antiquity of man and the age of the world with the Scripture chronology has been long and earnestly debated. On the one hand, scientists, deeming them irreconcilable, have been led to distrust the divine authority of the Scriptures; and, on the other hand, believers in the divine word have been led to look upon the investigations of science with an unfriendly eye, as though they were antagonistic to religious faith. Arts Own Big Bang Affirms Special Creation1/1/1999 If the naturalists and Darwinists were right about the evolution of humankind, we would expect both the quantity and quality of human artwork to increase gradually over time. New research, however, shows that the opposite is the case. Anthropologists have discovered what they call the “big bang” of artistic expression. Previous to about 40,000 years ago, art appears to have been both rare and “rough,” or crude. Cain Worked the Soil and Abel Tended the FlocksPosted by Fazale ‘Fuz’ Rana, Ph.D. New insight into the origin of agriculture buttresses a weak spot in RTB’s human origins model.CHROMOSOME STUDY STUNS EVOLUTIONISTSBy Hugh Ross, Ph.D. A new study by evolutionary biologists Robert Dorit (Yale), Hiroshi Akashi (University of Chicago), and Walter Gilbert (Harvard) flies in the face of prevailing origin-of-man scenarios. l-2 In an attempt to trace the ancestry of humans, these researchers looked for genetic differences in the Y chromosome of 38 men living in different parts of the world and having different ethnic backgrounds. Cosmic Acceleration Narrows Life's Time Window10/1/2000 Recent discoveries about the universes expansion rate significantly impact the case for divine design. Past research revealed that only after a certain period of expansion would the universe be ready to support physical life. The latest findings show that the expansion will soon be too great for life support. The narrowness of this life window has led some researchers to acknowledge the necessity of intelligent design.1, 2 Creation vs. Evolution: Why a Model Is Essential8/25/2008 The public debate about teaching intelligent design has exposed widespread confusion both inside and outside the church about how the scientific enterprise operates. One of the most frequent complaints scientists make about the Intelligent Design movement is that their brand of intelligent design is not testable, falsifiable, or predictive. Equipped for High-Tech Societyby Hugh Ross, Ph.D. Human beings seem vastly "over-endowed" for hunter-gatherer or agrarian existence. For tens of thousands of years humanity carried intellectual capacities that offered no discernable advantage. From a Darwinian perspective, such capacities would be unlikely to arise and, even if they had randomly emerged, they would likely have been eliminated or minimized by natural selection. Eve's Secret to Growing Youngerby Hugh Ross and Sam Conner A new discovery about a genetic phenomenon called "heteroplasmy" revises the date for our oldest female ancestor, Eve. Previous research on mitochondrial DNA (the DNA present in organelles outside the cell's nucleus) fixed the earliest date for Eve at 150,000 years ago. Evidence That Humans Are Evolving Is Not Evidence for Human EvolutionBy Dr. Fazale ("Fuz") Rana Ancient DNA Analysis Sheds Insight into the Micro-Evolutionary Origin of Lactase PersistenceIt’s hard to imagine a refrigerator (at least in the U.S.) that doesn’t have a gallon or two of milk in it. Milk is a staple in the diet of humans—young and old—around the world. First Footwear Dates to 40,000 Years AgoPosted by Fazale ‘Fuz’ Rana, Ph.D. New Research Supports Biblical View of Human Origins Hope I Die When I'm Really OldPosted by Fazale ‘Fuz’ Rana, Ph.D. New Discovery Make Sense of Long Life Spans in Genesis 5 and 11 Human Curiosity as Evidence for Godby Hugh Ross, Ph.D. Why do human beings ask why? Does this driving curiosity simply reflect humans' intellectual superiority? According to evolutionary theory, the distinctions between humans and other species are matters of degree, not of kind. What does careful observation reveal? Long Noses Give Insight into Intelligence and EvolutionBy Otis F. Graf, Jr., Ph.D Does biological evolution tend towards a direction? And does that direction lead to intelligence that enhances survivability? Many scientists have assumed that it does, particularly those involved in the Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI) Institute. However, a recent article casts doubt on the idea that smartness inevitably gives survival advantage. New Clues to a Genesis Mystery10/1/2003 The biblical record of patriarchs who lived 900+ years has raised questions and doubts for centuries. In the context of current life expectancy (which places me on the brink of “senior citizen” status), some Bible readers assume the “years” in the Genesis 5 and 11 chronologies must have been shorter than the familiar 12-month whirl around the Sun. But there’s nothing in the text or in other ancient records to support such a view and much to contradict it. New Date for First Aussies4/1/2004 Australia, do we have a problem? It may seem so, or at least it did a few years ago. The RTB creation model places the creation of humanity at roughly 50,000 years ago, with the spread of peoples and civilization outward from Mesopotamia some time after that, but probably no earlier than 30,000 years ago.1 Research findings published in 1996 claimed that aborigines inhabited Australia as early as 50,000-75,000 years ago.2 RTB’s scenario appeared to contradict the data. New Y Chromosome Studies Continue to Support a Recent Origin and Spread of HumanityBy Fuz Rana, Ph.D. Two related studies recently reported by an international team from Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley, and Oxford University add to the growing weight of evidence supporting a recent origin of humanity that is in line with the biblical date. Science in the News: Will the Real Adam Please Stand Up?By Hugh Ross Week by week, month by month, as various science publications cross my desk, I see article after article on new findings about early man and his origins. The italics are intended to highlight the crux of an emotionally-charged controversy: the use of the word man. Scientists Send Note Home: Source of Ancient Lice Outbreak in America UncoveredPosted by Fazale ‘Fuz’ Rana, Ph.D. Lice DNA Supports Biblical Account of Humanity’s Creation The Broken Tie that Binds
By Hugh Ross According to Genesis, the human race both before and after the Flood ignored God's direct command to spread out and fill the earth. Despite God's warnings about the seriousness of disobedience, several generations of post-Flood people refused to budge from the Mesopotamian flood plain. To get the people moving, God had to destroy the civilization of Babel. He brought such a severe disruption of communication that people finally scattered themselves over the six habitable continents. The Dark and Bright Sides of Cosmology10/1/2007 Astrophysics has its ironies. Here’s one: Studies of the brightest galaxies in the universe led to the discovery that 99 percent of all matter is "dark matter".1 But matter is only part of the universe (about a fourth). The rest is energy. Adding irony to irony, research focusing on the brightest stars in the universe shows that "dark energy" is far more abundant than dark matter, making up most of the rest of the universe. Despite its often negative connotation, this "darkness" is not a bad thing. The Distinctive Human SelfBy E. Stan Lennard, M.D., Sc.D. Unfortunately there is an obsession by “advanced” thinkers to discredit traditional value systems as obsolete, presumably because they had a religious base. So the challenge is to replace traditional values by an ethic based on scientific rationalism or on a more evolutionary basis. The characteristic feature of all these value systems is their materialist basis, though it may be concealed.(1) The Genesis Genealogiesby Dr. John Millam In 1650, James Ussher, the archbishop of Ireland came up with a detailed timeline for all the events in the Bible, going all the way back to the creation of man and the universe. According to Ussher’s chronology, Adam and Eve were created in the year 4,004 BC. In order to date backwards from Abraham to Adam and Eve, he made use of the genealogies given in Genesis 5 and 11. A critical assumption that he made in his interpretation was that these two genealogies were complete (that is, that they contained no gaps or missing names). Are these genealogies indeed complete as Ussher assumed? The Great Divide of Peleg's TimeBy Hugh Ross In the genealogy of Noah's son Shem, we see the name Peleg and along with it a brief note that "in his time the earth was divided." I've linked this statement with the break up of the warm land bridge that permitted migration from Siberia to Alaska-eastern hemisphere to western-between 14,000 and 11,000 years ago. TO CLONE OR NOT TO CLONE?By Hugh Ross, Ph.D. A cloud of moral confusion seems to surround recent advances in cloning research. When British zoologists announced Dolly the sheep, the first mammal successfully cloned from an adult cell, my phone became extra busy. Secular media spokesmen wanted my comments on this development, which they assumed Christians would view as evil, perhaps on a par with abortion and euthanasia. They made clear their expectation that I, as an evangelical scientist, would oppose any and all cloning experiments. Uniqueness of Human Capacity to Express MaliceHugh Ross, Ph.D. One of the cornerstone doctrines of the Christian faith is that humans alone among all life-forms on Earth are sinners. According to the Bible, all humans and only humans are born with the propensity to commit evil acts. That being the case, it should not be difficult for scientists to develop tests to confirm or deny this essential teaching of the Christian faith. Uniqueness of Social Cognition in Humansby Hugh Ross, Ph.D. One of the cornerstone doctrines of the Christian faith is that humans alone among all life-forms on Earth are created in the image of God. Part of this image entails that humans are spiritual beings uniquely endowed with the physical apparatus to engage in spiritual activity. According to the Bible, this image of God did not evolve within the human species. It appeared fully established and fully functional when God created the first human male and female. What Does a "Very Good World" Look Like? Part 1 of 211/24/2008 God’s Instructions to “Subdue” and “Rule” Imply the World Was Harsh Before the Fall One point of contention among those who believe in creation is the issue of death and decay in the original created order. The question, simply stated, is whether or not death, decay, disease, harsh conditions, etc., exists as a part of the world before the fall of Adam. What Does a "Very Good" World Look Like? Part 2 of 212/1/2008 God’s Instructions to “Subdue” and “Rule” Imply the World Was Harsh Before the Fall Our last article reviewed uses of the words kabash ("subdue") and radah (“rule”) in the Old Testament beyond Genesis 1. In all cases, they imply strong control exerted in the face of fierce resistance—or potential resistance. Wheat Tells a Story of Beginnings1/1/1999 DNA “fingerprinting” helps with investigations beyond the criminal courtroom. In one recent case, this research technique was applied to the study of agriculture’s origin, and the results provide a significant corroboration of biblical historicity. According to that study, Why Aren't There Any 900-Year Old Human Fossils?by Fazale Rana, Ph.D. "You don't really believe that humans lived to be 900 years old, do you?" A well-known local atheist posed this question last spring (2005) when I spoke in Albany, New York. For many skeptics the long life spans recorded in Genesis chapters 5 and 11 seem absurd. If anything, anthropological evidence seems to indicate that humans who lived just thousands of years ago had shorter life spans than they do today. Why Shorter Life Spans?By Hugh Ross None of the explanations offered in the accompanying article imply that God randomly selected the life span of early humans or that He simply reacted to natural disasters in shortening human life. Why the Universe Is the Way It Is1/1/2006 In the best-selling science book of all time, author Stephen Hawking explains that no human is content until he or she has complete answers to the following questions: "What is the nature of the universe? What is our place in it and where did it and we come from? Why is it the way it is?" Y Chromosome Analysis Confirms Biblical Account of Jewish and Arabic OriginsBy Fazale (Fuz) R. Rana A recent study carried out by an international team of researchers provides powerful evidence for the veracity of the biblical account of the descent of both the Jewish and Arab peoples from one father (Abraham), as described in the book of Genesis.1 Y-Chromosome Reveals Evolutionary Limits
Hugh Ross Y-chromosome studies have just answered a long-standing anthropological question: Are modern Japanese people descended from the Jomon or from the Yayoi people?1 The Jomon migrated to Japan from the Asian mainland about 12,000 to 14,000 years ago when sea levels were so low that land bridges permitted. The Yayoi arrived in ships from the Korean peninsula in about 250 B.C.
