Austin, Texas Chapter

Email:

Strengthening the faith of Christians
and providing more effective tools for evangelism

About Us:
The Austin Chapter of Reasons To Believe (RTB) is a local extension of the international ministry of RTB.  We began to meet as a Network in June 2009 and formally voted to transition to a Chapter in January 2011.  Our membership includes men and women of different ages, from an assortment of backgrounds, with varying levels of formal education, from a mixture of Christian denominations unified by a desire to answer life’s deepest questions by improving our knowledge and understanding through Christian apologetics.

Our Mission:
The Apologist’s Mandate: 1 Peter 3:15

“Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect…”
(NIV)

Christian apologetics is simply defined as the defense of the Christian faith and worldview.  This is accomplished through several avenues:

1.    Vindication – This involves presenting philosophical, historical and scientific evidences in support of the faith.  This form of apologetics develops a positive case upon which to ground one’s Christian beliefs.

2.    Defense – This involves defending the Christian worldview against attacks from proponents of other belief systems.  This often necessitates correcting misrepresentations of the Christian faith as well as answering questions, criticisms or objections which may be leveled against Christianity.

3.    Refutation – This involves addressing arguments marshaled in support of opposing beliefs.  The intent is to offer a thoughtful, rational, reasoned response to the assertions of conflicting worldviews.

4.    Persuasion – The ultimate goal of any apologist is not only to defend the faith, but to persuade others that the Christian worldview most accurately reflects the reality we experience in this world and influence them to apply the truths of Christianity to their lives in the present and in the future.

We attempt to accomplish this by the following:
•    Seeking the truth and steering clear of dogmatism.

•    Meeting once a month to increase our knowledge in the area of Christian apologetics
and ministry via an informal social setting.

•    Seeking opportunities to promote speaking engagements for RTB scholars and Chapter apologists.

•    Encouraging members to seek continuing formal education in the area of Christian apologetics.

•    Encouraging and developing relationships with local ministries, schools, churches and
      affiliated organizations.

•    Seeking opportunities to open dialogue and present the Gospel message of Christianity to
      non-believers.

Meetings:
We meet on the second Saturday of each month from 10:00 am to noon at the Campus House of Prayer.  Hill Country Bible Church UT, 405 W. 22nd Street, Austin, Texas, on the campus of The University of Texas map.
