About the Chapter
Activities for the Japan branch of RTB began in 1995 with the translation of the paper, "Astronomical Evidences For The God Of The Bible" into Japanese. In January 1996, Hugh Ross made his first trip to Japan to be the key speaker at the Hayama Missionary Seminar, an annual 2 day seminar for missionaries from a wide variety of denominational and theological perspectives. That report is available in the Hayama Seminar publication, which documents the presentations and discussions held at each seminar.
Dr. Ross has been in Japan for speaking tours five times since then, once for a brief stop-over in October 1996 on the way back from Hong Kong, and followed by a week-long series of speaking engagements in January 1998. That tour was timed to promote the release of the Japanese translation of The Creator And The Cosmos, and the tour included numerous speaking engagements in Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka and Kobe. Harvest Time Ministries featured a 30-minute interview with Dr. Ross that was broadcast nationally, and the response from listeners for the book was the greatest single response they had ever had. Dr. Ross' 4th tour was in May 1999, which featured speaking engagements at Japan’s premier university, the University of Tokyo. His fifth tour was in June 2000 to promote the release of the Japanese translations of both the book The Genesis Question and the video, Journey Towards Creation, with major presentations in Osaka, Yokohama and Tokyo. His most recent tour was in May 2007, where he spoke at 16 venues in Fukuoka, Osaka and the Tokyo area to a total of some 1500 people. (Picture)

Location
Tsukuba Science City is Japan's premiere science and technology center. Thousands of Japanese scientists and researchers work at the over 50 major national research institutes (including NASDA, the Japanese space administration) and over 200 private company institutes that are located in Tsukuba. There are also about 6000 foreign researchers and students residing in the Tsukuba area at any one time, though most are here for relatively short periods.
Tsukuba Christian Center, a ministry of the Kanto District of the United Church of Christ in Japan, is located in the center of the city, less than a block away from a major international convention center. It serves as a community center and includes a small YMCA, with its community activities. In addition to the Japanese translations of Dr. Ross' books, RTB Japan also has available many of the English books and videos offered by the RTB headquarters.
As of October 2007, Tim Boyle's place of assignment will change. Tim and his wife Yuko (Juji) will be moving to Nishinomiya, which is located between Osaka and Kobe. Tim will be working with the Buraku Liberation Center, a center set up by the United Church of Christ in Japan to deal with the problem of discrimination against the "Buraku" people, a kind of outcast class that originated in feudal times but who still experience numerous forms of discrimination based only on the status of their birth family.
