Who Are We?

The Charleston, South Carolina Chapter of Reasons To Believe is a local extension of the worldwide organization of the Reasons To Believe ministry. Reasons To Believe was founded in 1986 to remove the doubts of skeptics, strengthen the faith of believers, and demonstrate that science and the Bible complement one another.

It is our conviction that the same God who created the universe inspired the Bible. Therefore, what God says through His written word must agree with the facts of nature. We reject the notion that science and the Bible are at odds and believe that new scientific discoveries are adding to the already compelling case for the God of the Bible.

The Reasons To Believe ministry is at the forefront of these issues. Whether you are looking for scientific support for your faith or answers to questions about God and science, we look forward to introducing you to Reasons To Believe. Many hands-on activities, in the local Charleston area, are available such as: study programs, regular meetings, talks and group discussions.

Our Mission

Our mission is to show that science and faith are, and always will be, allies, not enemies. We endeavor to bring that life-changing truth to as many people as possible, both believers and non-believers. The Charleston SC Chapter of Reasons To Believe affirms that in creating and preserving the universe God has given it order and intelligibility, the basis of scientific investigation. To carry out our mission, participants of the Reason To Believe Charleston, SC Chapter:

  • meet regularly for study, discussion, planning, and fellowship.
  • distribute a bimonthly newsletter that addresses issues relating to science, theology and the Bible.
  • provide speakers, both local and national, to address science and the Bible issues.
  • work with teachers and school administrators to augment science curriculums with the latest scientific discoveries using film, slides, and discussion.
  • make available resources for leading group studies, discussions, and seminars with high school and college-age people.
  • foster the development of local discussion groups that address science, the Bible, and related topics.
  • build alliances with local churches, organizations, and groups to share the Reasons To Believe message.
  • provide a forum for members to discuss the latest scientific discoveries.

Training

The chapter administers a training program in conjunction with the home office of Reasons To Believe. This course is designed for people who want an in-depth understanding of science and the Bible and, more importantly, to use science to strengthen the faith of believers and minister to non-believers.
