The earliest Christian confession of faith was ‘Jesus Christ is Lord.’  Within the Christian community, and to those who made this declaration, these four words summarised a very high estimate of the carpenter’s son Jesus of Nazareth, and included a high view of the meaning of human existence in history, and a conviction about the purpose and future of the universe.
