Analysis of adjacent deep ice cores in Greenland establishes that average annual temperatures occasionally shifted by as much as 7° Centigrade (12° Fahrenheit) in less than fifty years. Such shifts would dramatically limit human population and civilization levels. The ice core results reveal that humanity presently resides in an exceptionally benign and brief climatic episode.
